1. First Name: Luke. Location: Worcester. Audi Model:: S4 B8. Audi Year: 2010. Posted January 30, 2022 (edited) Hi, I'd imagine this has been posted numerous times. I'm looking into doing the timing chain myself, I'm wondering where the best place to get a complete timing kit from plus the locking kits aswell.
2010 Audi A4 4dr Sedan. turbocharged 211hp 2.0L I4 8-speed shiftable CVT FWD. 57500 mi. US $3000. CVT "gearbox malfunction" light came on, trans would slip on inclines, dealership quoted 10,000 to replace. Replaced with a used trans at indie shop instead. The CVT is garbage. Stay far far away.
1. B8 S4 DSG/S-Tronic Transmission Failure. It’s been estimated that possibly near 20% of all B8 S4’s suffered problems with their DSG transmissions. The most prevalent problems occurred with the Mechatronics unit failing and requiring replacement – a job that costs at least $4k to fix.
If these aren’t working correctly your camshafts wont work in time = running rough but has nothing to do with the chains. a workshop scan will pick these up under valve timing for (retard or advance). the solenoids are about $300 each and Are much cheaper then motor out.

The average cost for an Audi A4 Timing Chain Tensioner Replacement is between $1,138 and $1,321. Labor costs are estimated between $702 and $885 while parts are typically priced around $436. This range does not include taxes and fees, and does not factor in your unique location. Related repairs may also be needed.
A local Audi shop (not official dealer) suggested I replace the timing belt. I trust the guy, but his recommendation is to do a significant amount of work - he said it's about 50 parts (replace all tensioners, serp belt, etc). His quote is $2200. The Audi dealer only wants $1400 but I suspect they're doing considerably less work.

It's only the lower cover that's metal (and bends when it comes off) that's always advised to replace else you could get oil leaks.
